Dr. Nita Shah brings over 40 years of diverse conservation experience, having worked across India, Central Asia, and China on expeditions that combine rigorous science, species recovery programs, habitat restoration, policy advocacy and safeguarding  habitats & populations of Asiatic wild ass, Antelopes & several species of conservation importance in hot & cold deserts .

Her landmark contributions include:

Asiatic Wild Ass Conservation in the Rann of Kachchh, where her research and advocacy efforts were instrumental in protecting the Wild Ass Sanctuary from de-notification.

Leading the BNHS Vulture Advocacy Program, a globally acclaimed campaign that directly contributed to the ban on veterinary diclofenac in India — one of South Asia’s most significant conservation successes.

Advancing wetland and migratory bird conservation, with long-term work on flamingos, cranes, and migratory passerines along the Central Asian Flyway.

Serving on prestigious IUCN Specialist Groups and contributing to the Central Asian Flyway National Action Plan.

In addition to her species- and habitat-specific work , Dr. Shah has trained thousands of forest staff, youth, and community members in conservation techniques, reflecting her deep commitment to capacity building and community stewardship.

Her presence on our Advisory Board strengthens our vision of integrating ecological science with community-led action to address biodiversity loss and climate challenges.
